West Glamorgan Guide Centre,
Parkmill, Gower, Swansea, SA3 2EQ
A charming location for residentials, utilising a Victorian built School and headmasters accommodation in the beautiful Gower Peninsula (the United Kingdom’s first designated area of outstanding natural beauty). There is a fair sized car park and a large lawned area, perfect for games, a brick barbecue and strong outdoor tables and benches, provide opportunities for eating outdoors. The centre is close to the beautiful Gower beaches, and you can walk up the Ilston Valley through the car park of the Gower Inn pub next door. The Heritage Centre, a popular tourist attraction is not far down the road, it is an old mill, which has animals, play areas, an old air raid shelter, an old cinema and holds themed days in the Summer. However, although being close to the beaches and other tourist attractions, there is no pavement, so you would probably need transport to visit them. The County trading depot selling uniforms, badges etc is based in the grounds of our centre, and is open Saturdays 3-5pm school term time or by prior arrangement through the Booking Secretary. |
The Old School House
Update (temporary use):
Due to the condition of our dormitory buildings we have made the decision that they are no longer fit for use. The Old School House has now been temporarily converted into sleeping accommodation for the centre (please see photo below). It has bunk beds to sleep 18 in the main room and a side room for leaders which sleep 4 (one bunk bed and 2 single beds). The bunks take up roughly 2/3rd of the room so there is space for additional camp beds to be used if needed or if you wanted to use it for another purpose. All groups that come to stay can book both The Old School House for sleeping accommodation and Ilston Lodge for cooking and activities. The Old School House which has a hall/ dining area, a large well equipped catering kitchen, a Leaders bedroom (sleeping 4 people), toilets and showers. |
Ilston Lodge
The Ranger House
On site we also have the ‘ Ranger House’ which was the old headmasters accommodation, this is a quaint Victorian dwelling, which can sleep 12 in three rooms, holding 7, 3 and 2 in bunk and single beds, the smallest room is en-suite. The house has a living room, dining room, kitchen and toilet/ shower room on the ground floor.
